This is one of our newest programs! Pregnancy Centering involves group prenatal sessions consisting of 6 to 10 expectant mothers. At each session, the patient is taught how to take their own vitals and receives their prenatal care in a relaxed, group setting with of other expectant mothers in same trimester of pregnancy. The program is especially beneficial for first-time mothers. It allows the women to share their pregnancy experiences with their peers and provide social support based on their experiences. More experienced mothers in the group are a valuable resource as they can help coach the newly expectant mothers. These sessions are facilitated by their OB physician.
This collaboration consists of four community organizations: Communities In Schools, Decatur Cooperative Ministries, Oakhurst Medical Centers, and Jewish Family and Career Services. The program targets families with children attending one of the Clarkston area schools and assists their families with housing services, employment services, educational services and health care services. This program has been made possible through generous funding by United Way.
